By geographical indicators, we mean markings used to identify the geographical origin of products; these, however, can only be granted industrial property rights protection as a result of an authority proceeding if specified criteria are met. Protection for geographical indicators is built from three complementary systems that operate next to each other, being national, Community and international protection. SBGK primarily engages in representing its clients during the assertion of geographical indicator related rights. Parallel to geographical indicator protection, and as a supplement to that, SBGK also provides assistance to its clients in securing collective and certification trademarks.
