SBGK at the 40th MARQUES Annual Conference in Lisbon

Under the theme “The Exciting Evolution of Trademarks”, this year’s anniversary conference offered an insightful look at how trade marks – and the expectations surrounding brands – continue to evolve in an increasingly complex legal, commercial and technological environment.

The programme addressed some of the most relevant issues currently shaping trade mark practice, including the changing regulatory landscape, sustainability and green claims, consumer trust and brand value, the forthcoming Digital Product Passport, geographical indications and international trade, as well as developments in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. The conference concluded with the annual review of recent CJEU and General Court trade mark case law.

Beyond the professional programme, the MARQUES Annual Conference once again provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen international professional relationships and exchange views with colleagues from across the IP community.

At the Gala Dinner, Dr. Enikő Karsay was delighted to welcome Angela Fox, Zuzana Peniaskova, Maiken Toftgaard, Martina Galante, Sarah McMullen, Anette Henrysson, Clarissa Otto, Joseph Gerber and Charleen O’Keeffe at her table.

Thanks to Claudia Pappas, the Chair of MARQUES and the MARQUES team for an inspiring anniversary conference, as well as to all colleagues for the engaging discussions and enjoyable meetings throughout the week.

We look forward to continuing these conversations – and to meeting again at the 41st MARQUES Annual Conference in Athens in 2027.
