21. November 2015. – The label that owns the rights of Rubik’s Cube / Seven Towns (UK) since 1999 has been contested by Simba Toys (Germany) on the grounds that the Cube contains a technical solution that can only be protected as a patent but not as a copyright. The Tribunal’s decision has rejected Simba Toys’ action but it can be appealed against in two months. The Tribunal had found that the shape of the Cube consists of 26 smaller cubes and black lines separating them, and although the pieces of the Cube can rotate, the form itself does not contain any technical solution related to the toy inside.
